The Swift Valley is a very attractive valley for tourists. It is situated on the eastern side of the Nízke Tatry (Low Tatras). The creek Bystrianka flows through the valley. The valley is surrounded by the hills of Baba (1617 m), Pálenica (1653 m), Dereše (2003 m), Chopok (2024 m), Ďumbier (2043 m) and Veľký Gápeľ (1776 m).
The Swift Valley becomes a wide tract of meadows called Tále 4 km before the mountain village Bystrá. Originally the name Tále was used for some of the local meadows, later it became one of the most visited tourist centers in the Low Tatras.
The village Bystrá arose around local mines, on the land of the village that is currently called Horná Lehota. The first written reference is from the year 1563. Till 1848 it was a settlement owned by a Chamber of Mining Industry. In the 18 - 19-th century iron ore from Hronec, Tisovec and Pohronská Polhora was processed here. In the 19 - 20-th century local workers were employees of the iron-works in Podbrezová. František Švantner, a famous Slovak writer, was born here in 1912. Nowadays the village becomes more recreational than industrial - what was caused to certain extent also by opening the Bystrianska cave for public. The village is situated in the protected area of the Low Tatras National Park. It offers a lot of boarding and lodging facilities, elevated wire-way and ski slopes.
